| Built by EMD in September in 1964 as
GM&O 622. It became the property of the Illinois Central Gulf
Railroad in August of 1972. However, it retained its GM&O
paint and number until it was damaged in a grade crossing accident and
subsequent derailment at Coal City, Illinois on July 18th, 1978. It
was repaired and repainted into the solid orange scheme
sometime in 1978 or 1979. It was involved in another accident shortly
thereafter as it was rebuilt in 1980 and received ICG's new orange and
gray scheme. Later it received the IC's new image black and white
and was sold to Steel Processing on June 21st, 1992 and was scrapped at
Centralia Illinois in December of that year.
Notes: Photos of this unit in the solid orange scheme are understandably rare. It is one of only two GM&O units to receive this scheme. Date in Solid Orange: 1978 or 1979-1979 or 1980 |
