| IC 3041 arrived on the property as part
of 20 new GP40's(3040-3059) in February of 1967. This unit was
special, as it was used in the christening ceremony at Central Station
in Chicago on February 17th, 1967. Perhaps it was the breaking of
the water bottle or perhaps it was involved in a wreck, but the 3041 was
singled out to receive the solid orange scheme. Interestingly, it
was returned to the lessor - Central State Equipment - only a few years
later in 1982, being sent off from there to become KCS 778 in March of
1982. It was then sold to MK Rail of Boise, Idaho in 1996 and
scrapped later that year. Notes: Only GP40 to receive this scheme. As far as I know, this was also the only unit in the batch of 20 to receive ICG lettering. While there are differences, the below schematic is as close as I have gotten. Date in Solid Orange: Unknown, at least 1979 - 1982 |
