| Illinois Central, and later
Illinois Central Gulf, was having so much success rebuilding geeps that
they started buying units that were from other railroads. UP 302 was one such a unit. It was built in July of 1957 and
bought by ICG in November 1978. It was rebuilt into GP11 8703 and was
released in May of 1979. 8703 was later repainted into the new IC
black and white scheme. It departed the railroad sometime after
January 3rd, 2000. It wound up on South Central Florida Express as
9023.
Notes: Someone tried to spray paint the number onto the cab of 8703. Note the lack of a "GP11" tag. Tags weren't applied until the 8710 unit. Date in Solid Orange: May 17th 1979 - ?? |
