History The Cherokee & Dakota Railroad was formed in July 1887 to build a line from Cherokee Iowa to Sioux Falls South Dakota. Construction began in September of that year and was completed on December 18th, 1887.
In June 1888, the C&D completed the line from Onawa JCT to Onawa
Iowa. |

In 1942, the segment between Onawa and Anthon is pulled up. The tracks between Anthon and Onawa JCT were abandoned in 1978. |
