History

   The Cherokee & Dakota Railroad was formed in July 1887 to build a line from Cherokee Iowa to Sioux Falls South Dakota.  Construction began in September of that year and was completed on December 18th, 1887. 

   In June 1888, the C&D completed  the line from Onawa JCT to Onawa Iowa.

 In 1942, the segment between Onawa and Anthon is pulled up.

 The tracks between Anthon and Onawa JCT were abandoned in 1978.
